Rabindra Sangeet (Tagore Song): Momo Chitte (In My Heart)

Category: Bichitro (Miscelleneous

Composed: 1317 (1910)

The Song in English Alphabets:

Mamo chitte niti nritye ke je nache
Tata thai thai, tata thai thai, tata thai thai,
Tari sange ki mridange sada baje
Tata thai thai, tata thai thai, tata thai thai
Hasi kanna hira panna dole bhale
Kape chande bhalo mando tale tale
Nache janmo nache mrityu pache pache
Tata thai thai, tata thai thai, tata thai thai
Ki anando, ki anando, ki anando
Diba ratri nache mukti nache bandho
Se taronge chuti range pache pache
Tata thai thai, tata thai thai, tata thai thai

English Translation of the Song:

I wonder who always dances in my heart

in throbbing tempo!

One, two, three, three, two, one

in unceasing legato.

With the dancing feet

joins percussion beat:

One, two, three, three, two, one

in non-stop fouetté.

Smile-tears like diamond-emerald

swing upon the temple.

In stirring rhythms

Good-Evil pirouette in ensemble.

Dances Birth, dances Death

hand in hand;

in constant spiral

one, two, three and three, two, one.

What ecstasy! What bliss! What delight!

Freedom-bondage fox-trot day and night

Close to that rolling wave

I gleefully sprint

One, two, three and three, two, one

 in ceaseless riff*

*movement combining a brush and a scuff on the same foot
