Composed: 23rd Ashwin, 1302 (8th October, 1895)

Category: Prem (Love)

The Song in English Translation:

My core is athirst
For the nectar of a song.
Like the withered vine                longing for raindrops
My soul sinks in the dust       sore and athirst
For the nectar of a song.
Today on this stirring spring night,       today with endless drought
Today my awakened heart              is like the insatiable Chokor*
For the nectar of a song.
The wakeful moon in a sleepless sky         gazes at the somnolent world
Today my body and soul cry out           in a vacant note
For the nectar of a song.

Chokor is a mythical bird that thrives only on moonlight for its food. The moon is its beloved.
