Rabindra-Sangeet (Tagore Song): Tumi Je Shurer Agun Lagiye Dile More Prane (Your Music Has Set Fire To My Core)

Composed: 28th Chaitro 1320 (7th April, 1914)

Category: Puja (Worship – Devotional Song)

The Song in English Script:

Tumi je shurer aagun lagye dile mor praane,

E agun chhorye galo sob khane.

Joto shob mora gachher dale dale

nache agun tale tale re,

Akashe hat tole shey kar pane.

Andharer tara joto obak hoe roy cheye

Kothakar pagol haowoa boy dheye,

Nishither buker majhe ei je amol

uthlo phute swarnokomol re,

Aguner ki gun achhe ke jane.

The Song in English Translation:

Your music has set fire to my core

That outspreads all over and roars

In every single withered bough

Rhythmic tempo does the flame show!

Towards whom does its hand skyward soar?

Night’s stars, all of them, stare; dazed;

What crazy wind rushes towards it!

In the heart of the dark, deep night

Gold-lotus-fire blooms petals of light

Who knows what’s hidden in fire’s ire!
