Rabindra-Sangeet (Tagore Song): Jara Bihan Belaye gan Enechhilo Amar Mone (Those Who Stirred Songs At My Dawn)

Composed: 14th Agrahayan, 1347 (3rd Nov. 1940)

Category: Prem O Prokriti (Love & Nature)

The Song in English Script:

Jara bihaan belay gan enechhilo amar mone

Sanjher belay chhayay tara milaay dheere

Eka bose achhi hethaay jatayater pather teere,

Ajke tara elo amar swapnaloker duar ghire

Surhara sab byatha jato ektara tar khuje phire

Prahar pare prahar je jaay, boshe boshe kebal gani

Neerab joper malar dhwani andhakarer shire shire

The Song in English Translation:

Those who stirred songs at my dawn,

they fade slowly like shadows at the dusky hour.

Here I am alone by life’s wayside,

today round my realm of dream, they arrive.

All my pains, now tuneless    look for their strain.

I keep on counting hours after hours

the sound of their silent rosary beads as it were

in the visceral dark hours.
