মেঘের ‘পরে মেঘ জমেছে, আঁধার করে আসে ।

আমায় কেন বসিয়ে রাখ একা দ্বারের পাশে ।

কাজের দিনে নানা কাজে    থাকি নানা লোকের মাঝে,

আজ আমি যে বসে আছি তোমারি আশ্বাসে ॥

তুমি যদি না দেখা দাও, কর আমায় হেলা,

কেমন করে কাটে আমার এমন বাদল-বেলা ।

দূরের পানে মেলে আঁখি     কেবল আমি চেয়ে থাকি,

পরান আমার কেঁদে বেড়ায় দুরন্ত বাতাসে ॥

Megher pore megh jomechhe, aandhar kore aashe.

Aamaye kano boshiye rakho aka danrer pashe.

Kajer dine nana kaje  thaki nana loker majhe,

Aaj aami je boshe aachhi tomari ashshashe.

Tumi jodi na dakha dao, koro amay hela,

Kamon kore kate aamar amon badol bela.

Durer pane mele aankhi kebol aami cheye thaki,

Paran aamar kende baraye duronto batashe.

 

The Song in English Translation:

 

Billowing clouds heap up and it darkens all over.

Why my love, you make me sit alone and wait at the door.

Amidst loads of work on work-days       among a crowd I stay

Today I solely wait seeking your assurance.

If you do not show up, look the other way,

How do I get through such dark, cloudy day.

Towards far away         these eyes vacantly gaze,

In the restive wind my wandering soul wails.
