Rabindra Sangeet (Tagore Song): Ratri Eshe Jethay Meshe (Where Night Merges)

Composed: 15th Ashwain 1317 (1910)

Category: Puja (Worship / Devotional)

The Song In English Script:

Ratri eshe jethay meshe diner parabare

Tomay amay dekha holo sei mohonar dhare

Sheikhanete saday kaloy mile gachhe andhar aloy

sheikhanete dheyu chhutechhe e pare oi pare

nitlonil nirob majhe bajlo gobhir bani,

nikoshete uthlo phute sonar rekhakhani

Mukher pane takate jai, dekhi dekhi dekhte na pai

swapan sathe jorie jaga, kandi aakul dhare

The Song In English Translation:

Where night merges into the day

You and I met at that confluence.

There black and white are in tune with the dark and light—

There from one shore to another waves race.

From the silent fathomless blue rang a voice in bass

On the vast touchstone a streak of gold was etched.

I looked up for your face,    I failed to see thee—

Inconsolable tears flowed, as awakening and dream embraced.
